1. Information We Collect

Account information: name, email address, and password (stored hashed, never in plain text) when you register.

Reviews and claims: the content of any review you submit, your display name, and, if you claim a company profile, your work email address and any verification evidence you choose to provide. Optional review proof files (such as a redacted invoice) are stored on a private, non-public disk and are only ever viewed by moderators.

Payment information: if a hosting company subscribes to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe. HostVeritas does not receive or store full card numbers — Stripe handles that data under its own privacy policy.

Usage data: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) kept for security and abuse prevention. We do not use third-party advertising trackers or sell any data we collect.

Comparison activity: we count shortlist additions, comparison views, shared-link opens, and provider website clicks as daily totals per provider. The report does not store visitor identities or individual shortlists, and small counts are not shown to providers.

2. Cookies

HostVeritas uses a single session cookie to keep you signed in and to protect forms from cross-site request forgery. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Disabling cookies in your browser will prevent you from logging in.

A shortlist is stored in this browser's local storage so you can return to it without an account. You can clear it with the shortlist's Clear control or by clearing this site's browser storage. Copying a comparison link shares the selected provider names and category in the URL; whoever has that link can view the current public comparison.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information above to operate your account, publish moderated reviews, verify company claims, process subscription payments, monitor uptime for participating profiles, respond to support requests, and secure the site against fraud and abuse. We do not use your data to train third-party AI models, and we do not sell personal data to anyone.

4. Who We Share Information With

We share information only where necessary to run the service:

Stripe, to process subscription payments (subject to Stripe's own privacy policy).
Our hosting and email infrastructure providers, strictly to operate the site and deliver transactional email (such as claim verification codes).
Law enforcement or regulators, only where required by a valid legal request.

Published reviews display your chosen display name, not your email address. Claim verification emails and review proof files are never made public.

5. Data Retention

We retain account and review data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Rejected review proof files and revoked claim records are retained only as long as needed for moderation history and dispute resolution, then deleted.

6. Your Rights

You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccurate data, or request deletion of your account and associated data, by emailing [email protected]. Some information, such as published reviews needed for moderation history, may be retained in anonymized form after account deletion.

7. Security

Passwords are stored hashed, sensitive files are kept on a private disk outside the public web root, and all traffic is served over HTTPS. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we apply industry-standard practices and review them periodically.

8. Children's Privacy

HostVeritas is intended for business and adult use and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.

9. International Users

HostVeritas is operated from, and data is processed in, the location where our servers are hosted. By using the site, you consent to your information being processed there.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will update the "last updated" date above.
